Congratulations to fourth formers Jordan Malcolm and Maria Lindsay on winning the recent i3 Great Idea Competition hosted by the Business Lab. For this competition, students had to create an idea based on a need they had identified, create a business plan and present to investors. “Order-Pro” is the name of Maria and Lindsay’s idea and it is a mobile device application that allows the user to make lunch orders at the school’s canteen. It pairs each user’s account with their student card to allow a complete cash-free system. The user is given a list of the available food a day in advance to make his/her selection from. They will receive their code, walk to the canteen to pick-up the order in less than ‘a second’ to really enjoy their lunch.
The students’ idea went through several rounds of judging and then they were interviewed by the judges: Bernadette Barrow of NCB, Douglas Orane of GraceKennedy, Joseph Matalon of ICD and President of the PSOJ and inventor Joel Sadler. (Mr Matalon and Mr Sadler are also Campionites!)
Maria and Jordan won a trophy, a book entitled ‘Starting a Business’ by Kimala Bennett, tablets, smart phones, a $50,000 scholarship from Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) and $100,000 to start the business. Many thanks to Mrs McIntosh-Henry and Mr Hibbert for assisting the students.
