Why Campion? Why Now?
Although the perception still exists in many minds that Campion is a so-called “rich” school, the facts do not support this. Over the last ten years, the student population of Campion has changed dramatically with some 35% of its exceptional students now coming to the school through the GSAT examination from primary schools and some 50% of its total student body coming from low to lower-middle income homes. This changing student body augurs well for Jamaica in that Campion has demonstrated its ability to provide an excellent education and produce graduates who are already in leadership positions throughout our country. In this way, Campion is playing its part in fulfilling education’s universal promise of social mobility for all its students.
However, this changing population also means that many Campion students do not have the adequate resources needed not only to attend school, but also to do adequate research and complete homework assignments in a world which now demands technological inputs. This, combined with the fact that the school has not had a proper library for the past 15 years, has made the construction of Jamaica’s first modern library media centre a priority for the Vision 2020 Campaign.
Therefore, the objectives of this project are to provide a facility that will:
- Support our students so that there is equal access to the best educational opportunities possible.
- Ensure ALL our students are able to compete in global economy, where access to technology and resources is integral to success.
- Contribute to the further development of a world-class school that can serve as an example of the potential of education in Jamaica.
We know you are probably evaluating your spending carefully in these times. Please remember that contributing to Campion is one of the best investments you can make in the future of your country as, over many years, we have been proud to witness Campionites rise to leadership positions in every sphere of national life and also well-placed in positions overseas.
