Pay it Forward: The Vision 2020 Lab Project
In the first phase of Campion’s ten-year Vision 2020 Campaign, the school set out to renovate the science labs and build Jamaica’s first modern library media centre. With the library under construction and three of four labs completely renovated in less than two years, the students, teachers and wider school family are deeply grateful to all our donors who have allowed us to achieve so much in such a short time. In particular, we recognize:
- Campionites Peter Bunting, MP, Chris Dehring & Senator Mark Golding for their gift of US$45,000 towards The DB&G Integrated Science Lab, which was opened on January 5, 2011.
- The Hendrickson Family for their gift of US$75,000 towards The Hendrickson Family Physics Lab and Lecture Room, which was opened on August 19, 2011. Some ten members of the Hendrickson family have attended Campion including siblings Kevin Hendrickson, Lori-Ann Lyn and Kathy Kerr.
- Past parents Dr and Mrs Devi Prasad V Potluri for their gift towards The Avinash Potluri Biology Lab which is named in memory of their son Avinash, a graduate of the Class of 1992. This lab was opened on September 23, 2011.
We also recognize and thank the following supporting donors for their valuable contributions to the Lab Project: The Burgess Family, GraceKennedy Foundation, Dr Jeffrey Meeks, Ex-o-Pest Ltd, Peter Reid, Dr Michelle Foote, Tradespan Cargo Ltd, Econocaribe Consolidators Inc, Gregory Worton & Jagon International Ltd, Denise and Neville Lyn-Fatt & Freight Handlers Ltd.
Up next is the second phase of the Campaign which will focus on the complete renovation of the last junior lab, chemistry; the upgrade of the sixth form lab; and the furnishing and equipping of the new library.
Here’s what you can do…
Here’s your opportunity to “pay it forward” by investing in future Jamaican scientists through your gift to our lab project. While naming rights are available for Leadership Donors, we welcome any donation online or by cheque. We also have a long list of equipment needs should you be able to donate in kind.
“Our labs provide the foundation for the exploration of the sciences by our students, many of whom will become Jamaica’s future scientists,” said Grace Baston, Principal. “We hope that our alumni and parents will be inspired by this Project so that we can provide the support and equipment that our teachers and students need and deserve.”
Campion students consistently receive the top CSEC and CAPE examination results in the country. On average, 20 Campion graduates are accepted annually to Medical School at the University of the West Indies. Campionites have also excelled in the sciences overseas, among them Joel Sadler, a member of the team of inventors of the Jaipur Knee, which was named one of the Top 50 inventions of 2009 by Time Magazine.
