Campion’s English Department consists of nine teachers of Language and Literature and two teachers of Communication Studies. One of the few schools in Jamaica in which Literature is compulsory up to the 5th form level, Campion is committed to broadening students’ knowledge, and appreciation, of good writing. Our immediate goals include improving students’ expression – both oral and written. We also wish to foster an atmosphere in our classrooms conducive to the sharing of views and the exploring of ideas raised by close, sensitive analysis of texts.
Not only were the 2009 CSEC and CAPE results some of the best we’ve ever had, but our students were awarded CXC national awards in CSEC Literature, CAPE Literatures in English and CAPE Comm. Studies.
Members of the Department: C. Webster (HOD), A. Alcock, C. Williams-Lyn, S. Gardner, L. Newbold, F. Alexander, D. Fong-Kong-Graham, C. Holdsworth-Gayle, J.L. Daley, G. Rampair, and R. Cooke.
Information Technology has revolutionised the way our world works, it touches every facet of our society. Campion College’s IT Department aims to have all our students computer literate by Grade 9, with those who continue with the subject at the CSEC and CAPE levels having the highest level of qualification to demonstrate this competence.
IT is not merely an academic subject; it is a skills based subject where students garner important skills that are useful throughout their lives even if their eventual profession is not directly IT related.
The department consists of two subjects: Information Technology, which is taught from Grades 7 to 9; and Computer Science, which is taught in Sixth Form. The department has had an enviable record of excellence on the CSEC and CAPE examinations since the first batch of IT students sat the CSEC exam in 2002, obtaining between 96% and 100% in every sitting at both levels.
The department is led by Mr. O. Hibbert and includes the following teachers: Mr. C. Soutar, Mr. S. Adamson, Mr. S. Dunkley, Ms. J. Powell and Mr. L. Henry. The department is supported by our System Administrators Mr. K. Davis and Mr. N. Bryan.
